Biography

Mr Thomas Bhiri is a lecturer in the Department of Banking and Economic Sciences since 2011. Mr Bhiri is a long serving academic who has imparted banking, economics and business management skills and knowledge to many students who have passed though the departments of Banking and Economic Science, Construction Economics and Management as well as Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. Mr Bhiri has supervised more than 60 undergraduate research projects as well as more than 20 postgraduate research projects. He is a board member of the Department of Banking and Economic Science as well as a board member in the Faculty of Business and Economic Sciences. He was an external examiner for Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) for the Bachelor of Technology Honours Degree in Financial Engineering two academic years. Prior to joining NUST, Mr Bhiri was a senior Analyst with the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe for 6 years where he was involved in preparing board and senior management reports on foreign exchange administration in Zimbabwe; conducting research on foreign exchange dynamics, training of financial institutions on bank operations and policy, development and stress testing of banking systems, providing policy input on foreign exchange accounting and management and attending to internal and external Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe stakeholders such as the IMF and the World Bank.

Community Service/Engagement

Mr Bhiri is a patron of the Financial Insight Club, the Microfinance Club as well as Co-Patron of the Banking Students Association. He has mentored students who have participated in the Chartered Financial Analyst competitions in collaboration with academics in the Finance Department. Mr Bhiri is also the Faculty Representative in the Committee of Associations and Affiliations.
